Getting started

Not installed yet? Get Best Download Manager on the Chrome Web Store.

How do I open BDM?

Click the BDM icon in Chrome's toolbar. If you don't see it, click the puzzle-piece icon at the top-right of Chrome, find Best Download Manager and click the pin so the icon stays visible.

How do I see all my downloads in a big view?

Click the expand icon (↗) next to the Pro badge in the popup, or “View all”. Use the shrink icon to go back to the compact view.

How do I add files to a collection?

Click the ⋮ menu on any file and choose Add to Collection, or choose Select to pick several files at once. Collections only keep references: your files are never moved or copied.

Download progress

How do I get the progress card on web pages?

Open BDM → Settings → Download alerts and turn on Show progress on web pages. Chrome will ask to allow access to sites; BDM uses it only to show this card. The toolbar icon shows progress either way.

The card doesn't appear on some pages.

Chrome doesn't let extensions show anything on its own pages: the New Tab page, chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store and Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. The progress on the toolbar icon still works there.

Why does progress stop near 80% and then jump to done?

Chrome reports download progress unevenly and sometimes doesn't know a file's total size. BDM shows a smooth estimate that holds below 100% until Chrome confirms the download is complete, so “done” always means done.

I don't get “download complete” notifications.

Notifications are only used while BDM isn't pinned and page cards are off (at most 3 a day). Also check that notifications for Google Chrome are allowed in your computer's settings (on a Mac: System Settings → Notifications → Google Chrome).

Files

A file shows “Missing”.

The file was moved, renamed or deleted after downloading, so Chrome can't find it any more. BDM keeps the entry so you can see what it was; use Remove from History to clear it.

Does “Remove from History” delete my file?

No. It only removes the entry from Chrome's download history. The file stays on your computer.

Why don't I see an older download?

BDM shows your most recent downloads, up to the limit in Settings → Show up to (500 by default). Raise it to see more. Downloads you cleared from Chrome's history can't be shown.

Privacy & data

Does BDM upload my files or history?

No. Everything stays on your device. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I reset BDM?

Settings → Reset local data clears BDM's settings and collections. Your files and Chrome's download history are not affected.

BDM Pro

When is Pro available?

Pro is coming soon as a one-time purchase, with a size map, unlimited collections, advanced filters, export and more. Everything in BDM today stays free.
